Human Apolipoprotein CI (Apo CI) is a lipoprotein with a length of 57 amino acids. Human Apolipoprotein CI (Apo CI) is one of the most positively charged proteins in the human body. Apolipoprotein CI main function is inhibition of CETP, probably by altering the electric charge of HDL molecules.
Recent studies have suggested that apoprotein (apo) CI in very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) plays an important role in causing hypertriglyceridemia independent of apo CIII, which is associated with coronary heart disease (CHD). Apo-CI Lipoprotein has been found to activate LCAT. The normal plasma concentration is 4-7 mg/dL.
